Origin Story

Obviously the most important part of this is Woodland Fairy!Sibelius, and the John Cage Comic

Hector Berlioz got cut off, but the most important is Sibelius who is portrayed here as a woodland fairy, which he will be portrayed as hereout. The reason for this is because Sibelius loved composing in the Finnish woods and would often stay outdoors for days playing the violin. Unfortunately, he was also an alcoholic.

The comic to the right is also of Sibelius, referring to the composition software of the same name. Below that is a comic (which I will redo), that has to do with how the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto (op. 64) is one of the most plagerized pieces of music in the entire genre. Brahms, Sibelius, and Bruch all used elements from Mendelssohn’s concerto in thier own (i.e. structure, written-out cadenzas, etc).

Below that is the pianist Thalberg looking on in envy at Franz Liszt, his arch rival who turned out to be much more popular than Thalberg.

On the Shostakovich comic, which got cut off, it says in the corner of the Violin Concerto: Play like you really hate Stalin.

I recommend listening to the Concerto in order to get the joke. That, plus it’s good music.

This sheet of paper marked the beginning of over 40 pages of comics about famous composers. The comics are drawn without pencil sketch, only with about 8 colors of Staedlter .3 felt tip-pens.

Can I actually draw? Yes. These scribbly little things are just my affectionate hobby, and I want to share them with the world.

Tonight, I’ll also add a couple more comics, and then only update Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday.
